Dr. Sanjive Narendranathan
Director

Sanjive is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia, a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Victoria (RPEV #7032) and Queensland (RPEQ #14061), with over 20 years’ experience in the field of Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering. He spent 16 years working as a consulting engineer, working his way up through the ranks to a Principal Engineer. Through his career, he has worked on a myriad of projects, such as undertaking geotechnical designs and feasibility studies for Transgrid, John Holland, CPB Contractors, Fulton Hogan, Rio Tinto, BHP, Barrick and Newmont for a number of projects in Australia, Asia and Africa.

Kevin Kuang
Operations Manager / Senior Engineering Geologist

Kevin is a Senior Engineering Geologist with professional working experience in the Mining, Transport, Infrastructure and Dams sectors. His experience includes the planning, management and supervision of geotechnical investigations, geotechnical assessments, geological modelling, construction supervision and QAQC. In addition to his Operations Manager duties, Kevin is currently the lead geologist responsible for coordinating and overseeing the geotechnical investigation program for a major Australian transmission project.

Steve Macklin
Principal Engineer

Steve is a geologist and engineer with over 35 years’ of experience. His work has encompassed open cast and underground hard rock mining, rock and soft ground tunnelling and caverns, rock and soil slopes, dams and pumped hydro schemes, rock and soil foundations and ground-structure interaction analysis. Steve has written and reviewed Geotechnical Baseline Reports (GBRs), as well as expert reports on geotechnical and tunnelling issues for clients across the insurance, infrastructure, retail, telecommunications and State Government sectors.

James Butler
Senior Geotechnical Engineer

James is a geotechnical engineer who has practiced in both consulting and operational settings within the mining and civil sectors. James’ capabilities include advanced slope stability modelling, finite element modelling, ground support and foundation design. James has previously held roles including the on-site Geotechnical Engineer at Glencore’s McArthur River Mine where he gained practical experience in hard rock mining and risk based engineering. More recently, James has broadened his skills to perform a variety of dam studies in accordance with ANCOLD guidelines, including the development of dam safety management documentation such as O&M manuals and emergency plans.

Tobias Shutler
Senior Tunnelling / Geotechnical Engineer

Tobias (Toby) is a Professional Tunnelling Engineer with extensive experience on large-scale transport, hydropower, and renewable energy projects. He has worked in consulting, site-based, and owner's engineer roles across Australia and Papua New Guinea. Toby’s experience spans technical design, construction surveillance, and project management, allowing him to develop a comprehensive skill set that integrates engineering expertise with project execution, ensuring the successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

Matt Armstrong
Senior Engineering Geologist

Matt is a Senior Engineering Geologist with extensive experience spanning mining, civil engineering, and government projects across Australia and the United States. His expertise includes a wide range of activities, from greenfield investigations and conceptual design to active operations and site rehabilitation. Matt has a proven track record in geology and geotechnical engineering, as well as in mine design, bulk logistics, and project management. He has contributed to complex projects by integrating multidisciplinary knowledge, providing innovative solutions, and ensuring alignment with safety and regulatory standards.

Sophie Xue
Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Sophie is a Graduate Geotechnical Engineer with a PhD degree focused on stabilisation of innovative recycled sand products derived from construction waste, emphasizing geopolymer and biocement applications. With publications in Q1 journals, she contributes to sustainable engineering practices. Skilled in interpreting geotechnical parameters, she uses software like the RocScience suite to provide precise analyses in slope stability and foundation design. Known for her analytical mind and attention to detail, Sophie combines technical expertise with a commitment to eco-friendly solutions, making her a valuable asset for teams pursuing sustainable, data-driven geotechnical solutions.

Lucy Li
Graduate Geotechnical Engineer

Lucy is a Graduate Engineer with a Master of Engineering from the University of Melbourne and a Master of Professional Accounting from UTAS. Her unique background combines both engineering and accounting, providing her with a multidisciplinary perspective on the delivery of projects. Lucy has completed a variety of geotechnical assessments for clients in the civil and mining space using the RocScience suite of software.
